Getting the Garden In

Finally it is dry enough and warm enough for the summer garden to be planted. The green house is full of happy plants just waiting to be planted outside.

Today we worked in the small garden. Potatoes and a row of green beans went in late March but due to the cool temperatures they have not done much. The onions and garlic are looking pretty good, they just need a good weeding. I loaded up tomatoes, peppers and basil from the greenhouse and we got busy. We planted a variety of tomatoes. Campari, Cherokee Purple, Better Boy and San Marzano along with a few cherry tomatoes of various colors. The peppers consisted of green, red, yellow and orange bells, cubanelle, bananas, shishito, and several varieties of jalapenos. A total of 52 tomatoes and 48 peppers were planted today along with  9 basil. Sis and I are super excited about our gardens this year since we have worked hard the last 2 years learning to save seed and a lot of the plants were from our stash.

Hubby got most everything cultivated. We still have quite a few more plants to go in and we haven't gotten the cutting flowers planted yet. Hopefully Sunday we will get those seeds in along with planting the big garden.
We ended the day with a potluck Cinco De Mayo dinner with the family. We had 19 people! It was so much fun and the food was delicious! A perfect ending to a busy week on the homestead. 💖
